Slovenia is participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1993, so this year it’s going to be the 17th entry. Slovenia only once made it into the final with “Cvet Z Juga” by Alenka Gotar (#15), all the other years Slovenia failed in the semi final. As a former part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia has not profited from the help of the neighbor countries, like Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, etc. in regards of the “Balkan Bloc Voting” rumor. Slovenia is the best proof that the “Balkan connection” is not working for all of these countries. All the Slovenian songs have been special in their own way, always different interpreters, music styles and concepts. By the way there were several good songs in the past: “Prisluhni Mi” by Darija Svajger (#7) in 1995, “Energy” by Nusa Derenda (#7) in 2001 and “Love Symphony” by Quartissimo feat. Martina.
This year’s Slovenian entry has been chosen in a national final called EMA in the end of February. “No one” is a song which is probably less outstanding than the others. There are many highlights in the Semi Final 2 like Dana International from Israel, Sweden, Bulgaria, Austria and so on. Therefore this entry is not a clear qualifier. The song sounds a bit too ordinary, too much drama but less melody. The chorus does not stick in people’s head, so there is nothing to remember from “No one” after listening to19 songs, unless Maja is doing a mega show in Düsseldorf.
