Romania has joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. From that on Romania had quite a successful hand, not in the first three years, but later, and all Romanian entries have qualified for the final. From 12 participations, Romania made it four times in the Top 10! The best rank was two times #3: “Let me try” by Luminita Anghel & Sistem (#3) in 2005 and “Playing with fire” by Paula Seling & Ovi (#3) in 2010. Somehow the Romanians have a good sense for international styled music. Nowadays there is no difference anymore between a Romanian song and a song from the UK in regards of the music quality, unless it is a folkloristic entry. The Eastern European countries even have Western European song writers and producers. Maybe it’s time to abandon the inner East-West border and consider it all European, no matter if it’s a song from Moldova or Belgium. The most memorable Romanian entries were: “Dincolo di Nori” by Dan Bittman (#21) in 1994, “Tornero” by Mihai Traisariu (#4) in 2006 and “Liubi, Liubi I Love you” by Todomondo (#13) in 2007.
The Romanian national final took place at the end of 2010 already. The winner Hotel FM with the song “Change” is a nice, modern and happy song with a refrain which is easy to remember. With these kinds of up-to-date songs Romania has always been successful. The song itself has been revamped a lot in the arrangement to make it sound even better. While looking at the competitors this year, there are many good songs, but it depends which county will qualify and how the final is going to be set up. This is not weakest song, but there are a lot stronger songs this year.
