Estonia is taking part since 1994, where there were only 2 points given to the country. After that, Estonia belongs to the more successful countries. The surprise victory “Everybody” performed by Tanel Padar & Dave Benton brought the Eurovision crown not only to the Baltic countries for the first time, furthermore it has been the first time that an Eastern European country could win and host the ESC in history. Estonian entries have been very different, very Estonian, like no other country, the music harmonies and the arrangements were totally different, as well as the fashion of the performers. It all showed a new Estonian identity, on which the Estonians are very proud of. Hosting the ESC in Tallinn really brought big attention to the small country at the Baltic Sea for a worldwide audience. And it proofed that Estonia made the best of it and showed a wonderful and rememberable contest in 2002.
This year Estonia is going to have another unusual entry called “Rändajad”, which will probably be sung in Estonian and not in English. For this song it probably doesn’t matter, as it impresses with the extraordinary music style. There are strings and a cool singer with an almost spherical sound. There is a haunting rhythm which is going to change in the second half of the song. All in all the whole performance appears like from another planet. The song has an interesting climax which stands out. Electrifying!
