Participant: Malene Song: Tell me who you are Writer(s): Michael Ronson Composer(s): Michael Ronson
From Denmark there is a very good song this year. The Danes were quite successfully during the last three years. Especially in 2000 when the Olsen Brothers surprisingly won in Stockholm and last year in Copenhagen they achieved a good second rank with Rollo & King. That's a good evidence for the good taste of the Danes choosing songs who meet the taste of the whole Europe.
The singer Malene is just 19 years old and is singing a wonderful popsong "Tell me who you are". Malene comes from a very musical talented family. Until some months ago she was just a 'normal' schoolgirl. Due to her participation at the popular TV-show "Star for a night" she got popular in Denmark (2nd rank). After that she was sent to the Danish preselection, where she became number one.
Firstly the title of the song was "Hvis mig hvem du är", which was changed because of the international presentation in Tallinn, so it's now called "Show me how you are". In the press conference it was pointed out that the Danish language is not very suitable for singing - it sounds like a throat disease!
The composer Michael Ronson is a Romanian and lives in Denmark since 1985. He will support Malene singing in the choir. In the video clip of the Danish contribution there is a lot of provocation. Malene destroys her apartment in kind of outburst. The Danes would like to take part again in the Eurovision Song Contest next year, so it is important to get as much points for not being disqualified for one year. "Tell me who you are" is modern and pretentious and especially the refrain is catchy. A great song Denmark.
