In Moldova there has been a national final as usual called “O Melodie Pentru Europa" and the lucky winner was Lidia Issac. The composer team of “Falling Stars” is Gabriel Alares, Sebastian Lestapier, Ellen Berg and Leonid Gutkin and comes from Sweden as there were many songs from Swedish composers in the Moldovan final this year. Gabriel Alares is no stranger at the ESC, he has also written last year’s Russian entry “A Million Voices” which came 2nd in the Grand Final.
Lidia was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1993. At the age of seven, she studied the piano and later on she participated in several music festivals. Lidia was also part of the girl group Glam Girls and had three previous attempts at the national final: “Celebrate” (2013) , “You Believed In Me” (2014) and solo with “I Can’t Breathe” (2015)
The song “Falling Stars” is a modern, Swedish pop song which has nothing Moldovan at all, like previous entries. The song is about the end of a great love. This entry might have difficulties to qualify for the Grand Final due to the fact that there is an overhang of women with similar medium fast songs this year.
Top 10: 2
Chance for Top 10: 15%
Moldova had its debut in the year 2005 with the extraordinary punk rock song “Boonika Bate Toba” by Zdob si Zdub. Remember the funny grandma in her swing-chair! The band is very popular beyond the borders of Moldova, in many other ex-Soviet states this band enjoys a huge success. This also led to a respectable 6th place in Kiev, not bad for a debut entry. This was the best place Moldova could achieve so far in the Eurovision Song Contest.
This year it will be the 13th time for Moldova in the ESC in Stockholm. The enthusiasm in this country is very high and has grown from year to year. The Moldovan broadcaster TRM is organizing a national final every year. So far the Grand Final could be reached 8 times and a Top10 place for times that makes a realistic likelihood of 15% to accomplish a Top10 position.
Moldova is also profiting from the neighbour countries votes, Romania and Ukraine were always very generous with their points and vice versa. The Moldovan entries have often been modern with a folkloristic character or an element. Unfortunately, the last two years Moldova could not qualify for the Grand Final anymore.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
