It’s no secret that successful songs are being covered and sometimes they could even achieve the same effect as the original song. “Atemlos durch die Nacht” is a German schlager, composed by Kristina Bach, the German schlager queen Helene Fischer has made this song to one of the most played songs in Germany since 2013. Helene even welcomed the German soccer world champions with this song at the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin.
This song has been covered by many singers. Recently, Charlotte Perrelli sang “Här är jag” (Here I am) in a semi-final of the Melodifestivalen. The parodic lyrics have been written by SVT commentator Edward af Sillen. This version has probably been the best cover ever. This has taken the Swedes by a storm and it’s going to be a new hit in Sweden. And of course this will be another smash hit for Charlotte.
One interesting thing from the German point of view, that the German schlager has a kind of bad reputation in Germany, the rhythm is always the same. In Sweden the schlager has totally positive image. The arrangement of Charlotte’s version is a bit faster and contemporary. Hopefully, this kind of German schlager will not influence the Swedish schlager too much in future.
