The announcement has been communicated quite early for the time of the year. Stockholm will be the host city 2016. And furthermore the ESC will take place in the Globen Arena again. This has been the venue for the 2000 ESC already. After 1975 and 2000 it will be the third time for Stockholm to host the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s good to see that the organizers have decided to choose the Swedish capital for the 61st Eurovision Song Contest. This will be a good step forward of cultural importance of such a glamourous city like Stockholm instead of the other smaller option.
There were several biddings such as the Scandinavium in Gothenburg (host city 1985), the Saab Arena Linköping, the Fjällräven Arena Örnköldsvik, the Göransson Arena in Sandviken & Gävle (two cities together), the Globe in Stockholm, Ullevi in Gothenburg, the Malmö Arena and the Friends Arena in Solna (close to Stockholm). Everything will be close around the Globen other next year. The close by Annexet will be the area for the delegations, the other convention center called “Hovet” will be hosting the press centre and the other close by Tele 2 Arena will be included in the event. The established Euroclub will also be in that futuristic complex. The look of the Globen is a bit unusual and it’s one of the biggest spherical buildings in the world, build in 1989. There a wonderful views from all parts of the town such as from the Skansen Park or from the popular city quarter Södermalm. During the Swedish Melodifestivalen finals, which take place in the Globen since 1989 as well, the big white ball also has a fascinating coloured look.
The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm will take place on Saturday, the 14th of May. The Semi Final 1 on the 10th and the Semi Final 2 on the 12th of May, 2016.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
