This year there are 40 participating countries in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is not the largest ESC in regards of participating countries. In Belgrade 2008 there were 43 countries in the run. Australia is the first oversea participant, due to the great interest in Down Under and the 60th anniversary.

How will the future of the ESC look like? Will there be a world contest one day? Over the years many other non-European countries have showed their interest and transmitted the live shows such as New Zealand, Japan, China and many more.
These days the first delegation of China arrived here in Vienna. They in negotiations with the EBU for the transmission rights in China. There is one Chinese internet channel called Mango TV. The Chinese are very interest in the ESC and the biggest wish is to compete there as well.
Maybe there will be an option in future that there are some open slots for oversea candidates like Brazil, South Africa or Canada?
The Eurovision Song Contest was always subject to changes. Nobody had a clear picture in the past how to integrate all the Eastern European countries. And nowadays it’s a normal thing to have them in.
