At the third day here in the Wiener Stadthalle has been dominated by the contestants from the first half of Semi Final 2 with many different songs.
It all started with Lithuania. The two very sympathetic singers Monika and Vaidas had a good time on stage. They were laughing and enjoyed every minute. Nevertheless, the colours were a bit too much, so the whole presentation had something kitschy. This is all accompanied by lots of kisses and the repeating chorus. Unfortunately, there has no real kiss been seen during the entire 3 minutes.
The Irish entry came with a classic instruments: piano, bass, cello and drums. Accompanied by good background singers this is a very solid performance by the 17-years old Molly. A very sophisticated and dreamy song. This would have won in the 1990’s. With the illumination everything is possible now and it seems that the Irish are singing under a sunny tree with a great harmony. A dark horse!
Like in the past four year’s Ralph Siegel has been the composer of San Marino. This time it’s not Valentina Monetta, but a very young duo called Michelle & Anita. The earth motive seem to be very popular this year and this is probably the fourth time that this has been used, but always in a different look. There are light spots from all over the world. Both were not in the right light in the beginning and they did not know where to stand, Anita is a lot taller than Michele. The song seems to be a lot longer than three minutes.
The entry from Montenegro is a lot better than in the video clip. It seems to be a different version and the folkloristic elements seem to be more dominant. There is a nice dance by Knez with his backing singers, there are mountains in the background. Red is the main colour and the glittering floor give a lot of glance to this entry. Well done!
There was another solid performance by Amber from Malta, a great stage with blue bulbs and a strong voice made a good impression. The Norwegians have a great song, but the clothes they worn were probably not the most suitable ones. Especially Debrah has a very special look with her red hair like a doll. She can wear everything and would look great, but Kjetil should not wear a white jacket with this. The stage is almost not visible as the focus is on the singers only. But thanks God, that they have no violin players on stage.
From white to black: Portugal has send Leonor Andrade, worn black clothes as well as her backing singers, who also worn black hats. The voice sounded a bit weak and unsteady, this was probably due to the sound issues in the arena and she could not hear herself. This entry needs to be improved if Portugal wants to qualify for the Grand Final.
It’s great to have the Czech Republic back in the ESC! Marta & Vaclav made a very good impression. Both dressed in black. Their voices were strong and they appear very sympathetic. This was also very well received here in the press centre.
This is a strong Semi Final 2, only 10 countries will qualify. It can be noticed that all countries try to make the best out of it.
