The second day in the week of the first rehearsals has been very interesting. There were some surprises like the overwhelming reception of the Russian entry in the press centres. It was the first time to notice such a strong reaction so far. This also proofs that politics has not space here in the “Eurovision world”. The stage itself was even better utilized today and the 3D look from the side view was even better.
Watching Serbia has caused a big laughter in the press centre, not saying the people were a bit shocked. Bojana’s grey dress appeared a bit unpleasant for her performance. This was probably not the best choice, but she will definitely show some more outfits. Her orthopaedic support stockings at her underarms were also a bit unfortunate as well. It all reminded a bit of the typical Hera Björk performance with the shaking skirts. A quite unusual number for Serbia.
Boggie from Hungary had a stunning performance here on stage. The stage was the most beautiful one until now. The illuminated earth in black and white in the background and on the floor made this song really magic. The light spots were correctly plotted and the choir was strong as well. With this performance Hungary will definitely be in the Grand Final. In the interview Boggie was very sympathetic and modest.
Belarus had not the best rehearsal today, the voice of Uzari sounded a bit itchy, and probably they have been too nervous. It almost seems that Maimuna is playing the violin live.
As already mention, Russia was the big surprise of the day. The Russian have put the musicians with their instruments on stage, Polina’s white dress was also used for a play with lights dots on it, the stage is just stunning and the reception was overwhelming in the press centre. If Polina continues with a performance like this, this might do very well at the end.
Denmark’s boy band Anti Social Media made a real good stage performance and gave a little concert for us. As there are strong similarities with the music style of the Beach Boys, they can be described as the Danish Beach Boys 2.0. A very funny group.
The Romanian group Voltaj tried to bring the message of their song – which is about children left at home, while their parents moved away – with suitcases on stage. According to the lead singer Callin, the little boy from the video clip will also play a live role during their performance.
The last rehearsal of the second day was from Georgia. The unique look of Nina is worth a special price. The stage is dark and mystic, which is pleasant to the theme of the song, which is about warriors. The vamp image, the black colours and the mystic atmosphere made a solid performance.
This was our first impression of the songs from the Semi Final 1. There is more to come about the Semi Final 2 and the Grand Finalists in the coming days.

My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
