This weekend the Swedish national selection called “Melodifestivalen” will have its Grand Final in the Friends Arena in Stockholm. After four elimination rounds and one second chance show in various Swedish cities, there are twelve entries in the final this year. This is more than in previous years as there were only ten entries. It’s the fourth time in history having 12 finalists, this was the case in 1963, 1987, 1988 and 1997.
The show is being hosted by the Swedish singer Sanna Nielsen, who made a 3rd place last year in Copenhagen with “Undo” and the Swedish comedian Robin Paulsson.
The Melodifestivalen enjoys a huge popularity in Sweden. The viewing figures are sometimes even higher than for the Eurovision Song Contest itself. There are some big names under the participants like Måns Zelmerlöw, who is already been seen as the winner. He had two attempts so far with “Cara Mia” and "Hope & Glory”, but never made it. After hosting the popular Skansen festival for three years in a row, he achieved a lot of popularity. Jessica Andersson has already been representing Sweden with the duo Fame with “Give Me Your Love” and reached a 5th place in Riga, 2003. Eric Saade made a 3rd place in Düsseldorf with “Popular”. And Magnus Carlsson had several attempts with the famous pop band Alcazar and also as a solo singer.
It will be a very exciting evening with a lot of music and entertainment.
As always there will be a live stream on SVT play.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
