As a kind of tradition there will be a hand-over of the keys by the lord mayors from the ex-host city Copenhagen and the new host city Vienna tomorrow (26th Jan 2015). The host broadcaster ORF will also utilize this occasion to welcome the EBU and the representatives of all the participating countries for the first time. This special event has been created to allocate the countries into the two semi-finals.
This event will not be the draw of the starting position, as this will be determined by the ORF and the EBU reference group, which takes place closer to the event to guarantee a fair and exciting running order.
39 countries will participate in Vienna, the Big 5 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK) as well as the host country Austria are automatically set for the Grand Final, so they don’t have to qualify in the semi-finals.
As the Big 5 countries and Austria will also have the right to vote in the semi-finals, there will also be the allocation which country of those will vote in which semi-final.
This special Eurovision event gives also the first view on what to expect from this year’s ESC, the usage of the logo, images of Vienna and to get to know the hosts.
This allocation draw will be broadcasted live on the official EBU website Eurovision.tv and the ORF live stream at 13.25 CET.

About me: Due to the fact that my parents are musicians, I have a gained a great enthusiasm for music. Since 1979 my interest in the Eurovision Song Contest has grown enormously. My first ESC I joined was in Dublin 1995. Six years later I founded the website eurovisionlive.com in the year 2001. The most fascinating part for me is the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest – the peaceful contest of the European countries. I am very happy that I have the chance to contribute my little part for the greatest music show in the world.
