The final decision where the 60th Eurovision Song Contest will take place has been brought in the Austrian news this afternoon. Vienna has been chosen to host next year’s ESC by the host broadcaster ORF with the approval of the EBU. Innsbruck was also highly favoured but at the end Vienna made the race, also Graz failed.
There have been weeks of intense discussions going around. Which of the candidate cities might have the best options in regards of arena, hotel capacities, infrastructure, etc.? Vienna would have been the natural choice by many people, as it is known as city of music. But smaller cities can also have good infrastructures to make it more compact, like Malmö 2013.
The venue will be the city hall called “Wiener Stadthalle”. This arena was built in 1958 and is one of the leading venues for music events in Austria. Normally the arena can host around 16.000 people for concerts. It all depends on the production and stage design, how many seats will be available.
The next Eurovision Song Contest will take place on the 23rd May, 2015. The Semi Final 1 on the 19th and the Semi Final 2 on the 21st of May.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
