Over the last years Copenhagen has developed to one of the food hot spots in Europe. Of course everybody knows the classical Danish dishes like Smørrebrød (delicious sandwiches), Pølser (Hot Dogs).
There is a top 10 list of Smørrebrød places and there is even an app to find the best ones. And these delicious sandwiches are truly masterpieces, creatively made – almost too nice to eat. One of the best addresses in Copenhagen is the restaurant from Ida Davidsen (photo), she is the queen of Smørrebrød and offers up to 140 varieties. Every Smørrebrød is freshly handmade and a cool glass of beer and an aquavit are the best accompaniments. Beyond that the food scene has become really interesting for food enthusiast.
The restaurant scene offers a very great variety of all world cuisines and there are 15 restaurants with have a Michelin star! The best restaurant of the world is called “Noma” and this nomination has been awarded three times in a row. Of course this place might be a bit pricy, but there are enough alternatives. Those restaurants can also be found in unusual place with industrial design.
The trend of the so called “New Nordic Cuisine” is being reflected everywhere with Food Festivals throughout the year. Local organic seasonal products and produce, fresh vegetables, fish and meat (such as Bornholm pork, seaweed, and root vegetables) are the preferred ingredients of the new Danish cuisine.
