It has been introduced in Oslo 2010 and since then the red carpet has become a traditional event in the Eurovision weeks. Also this year there was a red carpet rolled out ca. 100 metres in front of the Copenhagen town hall. This event is being treated as a kind of “Oscar ceremony catwalk” which has been broadcasted live in the internet as well as in the Danish TV.
This is not only a chance for the press to make pictures and getting some reactions and statements from the singers, it’s also a great opportunity for the citizens of Copenhagen to have a first look at what’s going on here on “Eurovision Island”.
The Olsen Brothers opened the ceremony outside with “Fly On The Wings Of Love” – their winning entry from 2000. The major of Copenhagen welcomed all guests and the Eurovision Song Contest has officially been opened. The first person walking on the red carpet was last year’s winner Emmelie de Forest.
Then 37 delegations in random order walked up the red carpet in their best outfits, from the glamorous gowns to shrill outfits like the Icelandic male performers Pollapönk in colourful dresses.
Some of the delegations really took their time to talk to everybody who was interested like the Swedish delegation. Other delegations did not spend much time and were running like the Romanians and the Dutch.
The Rådhuspladsen was full of people, all wanted to participate at this unique event. Big screens showed all highlights of the red carpet. The hosts of the press conferences also hosted this event by naming the countries and interviewed them shortly.
After that the delegations were invited to the town hall.
