In the Finnish pre selection show which is called UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kipailu) which means “new music competition” the Finnish representant has been chosen last night. The broadcaster YLE has put a lot of effort to make the show shine. There has been a spectacular opening showing Krista Siegfrids trying to enter the arena and performing the opening act with an impressive choreography.
There were eight songs in the Finnish final, a very young and unusual choice of contributions which seemed not being composed for the Eurovision at all, providing each one authenticity. There were ballads but also rock songs. An expert jury also judged each performance after the stage appearance.
At the end the TV spectators decided that Softengine should go to Copenhagen with the song “Something better”. Mikko Pohjola came 2nd with “Sängyn reunall” – a stunning ballad. The Finns do have a slight preference to rock songs, so “Something better” will definitely rock in Copenhagen.
