Among all the other national finals, one of the most spectacular shows is definitely the Melodifestivalen in Sweden. Within 6 weeks the entire country is following the qualification rounds and the stars and gossip in the Swedish media landscaped is focussed on one topic only – Mello – how the Swedes call it.
There will be four semi finals, one second chance show and one big final in Stockholm. In every semi final there are eight participants, two will qualify directly for the big final, and two will go into the second chance show, from which the two best will go to the final as well. So every Saturday night these shows will be transmitted in the internet as well.
Every year there are different host cities, it’s a kind of marathon tour with a lot of entertainment and excitement. This year the festival will take place in Malmö, Linköping, Gothenburg, Örnsköldvik, Lidköping and Stockholm.
Last year Sweden has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, thanks to Loreen’s “Euphoria”. In 2013 the aim to participate in the host country was not as high; no big names were found in the start up. Maybe the chance that Sweden could have won a second time was limited. On the other hand good host entries can end up very well. For example Ireland has won three times after another.
This year there are quite big names compared to last year, with all the popular composers like Fredrik Kempe, Bobby Ljunggren, Thomas G:sson and a lot more. These are the most popular singers: YOHIO, Helena Paparizou, Sanna Nielsen, Martin Stenmarck, Shirley Clamp, Dr. Alban, Alcazar, Linda Bengtzin and Anton Ewald.
