As reported earlier the running order has not be drawn, it has been decided by the Swedish television SVT and the EBU reference group very late last night. The aim is to avoid having similar styled songs close to each other and to bore the TV spectators. Alternation is the magic word – ballads should appear not after each other, every song should shine.
But how does it look in reality? It might have been quite complicated to decide why putting this country at the beginning and the other in the middle, where to put Romania so that the TV spectators won’t turn of their devices. Does anybody feel offended? Having France as an opener might be a good decision, as this rocky pop song may appeal to a lot of people. The closing song is the faster pop song from Ireland. In between there is a conglomeration of a special kind. The Scandinavian countries are well distributed as well as the Big 5 countries. You will always find some pearls, even if you have to suffer from time to time.
At the end a drawn would have been a fairer way for the delegations, but with a wisely chosen running order the climax of the show can be improved. We will see if this new concept will be successful or not. It certainly can get a makeover as the delegation draw in which part of the final they will show up. This is not consistent enough, on the one hand the organizers want to influence the running order, on the other hand they make it more difficult and uneasy with the first and second half draw.
