This afternoon the Malmö Arena has been filled with hundreds of journalists and fans with one reason: the first dress rehearsal of Semi Final 1 took place, altogether there are three dress rehearsals before the live show. For the first time the opening sequence has been revealed, a children’s choir was singing “Euphoria” in a lovely and heart-warming way, like they already did in the Melodifestivalen – all standing on a hanging bridge, like the Öresund Bridge. At the end of that performance Loreen herself entered the arena and sang together with the kids – that was stunning! And Petra Mede – the host arose on stage with a lift, wearing a sliver dress which looks like a silver Oscar statue. The butterflies in country colours are not kitschy at all; all the postcards are made in a modern and personal way.
Petra Mede has convinced with her personality and charisma and leaded through this show as she would do this every day. But it’s normal that mistakes happen, the Ukrainian singer could not hear herself and her rehearsal had to be interrupted. Also the recap of all the songs had to be repeated as the country name did not match with the video snippets – they were from the Semi Final 2. But this can happen and also belongs to a live show.
We can expect a warm hearted show, with a very emotional opening with less pictures of Sweden, but more pictures of Europe and the singers in a very personal and lovely way, very surprisingly strong songs like Russia, Estonia, Cyprus and Montenegro. The hot favourite Denmark has been performing well, also Austria and even Belgium. A bit disappointing performances were the ones from Slovenia, Croatia, Ukraine, Ireland and especially Lithuania, due to wrong tones.
The funny character Lynda Woodruff, played by the ex Melodifestivalen host Sarah Dawn Finer, who has participated twice in the Swedish pre selection herself. Her character is an EBU reporter who would like to show a little bit of Sweden in a very funny and sometimes comes into quite incapable situations. Well done Sweden!
