This year’s host Petra Mede gave her first official press conference here in Malmö. She is a real comedian and hosted the entire Melodifestivalen with six live shows in 2009 on her own. The Swedish broadcaster SVT emphasised that Petra Mede was the first choice when thinking of a suitable host for the Eurovision Song Contest.
In the past we have seen some funny hosts as well, like Anke Engeleke in Düsseldorf 2011. In other years, the humour of the host did not meet the international taste, like in 2001 in Copenhagen. Petra Mede also needs to be seriously in certain parts, like in the voting procedure. Of course, she will have some funny sequences in all of the three shows.
She said, she won’t be nervous, as she is used having a lot of TV-spectators. She has learned all the necessary languages to speak to all the jury spokesmen and the correct pronunciation. The best part will be the short historic videos where she always plays a guest role. That humour will hopefully be understood from the international crowd as well.
Petra Mede is also having some surprise in store, like former single hosts, e.g. Lill Lindfors in 1985, where she lost her skirt, at the end it was a trick to wake the people up a little.
