This year the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in the third largest city of Sweden: Malmö. The entire region is located in the very south of Sweden and called Skåne or Scania in English. The Öresund area is being seen as a new striving Euro-Region between Sweden and Denmark. This region is also a very beautiful one as well. Outside Malmö you will find some hidden gems and some rural highlights you may have not expected like this.
The rural area is mainly dominated by agriculture but here and there you will also find unspoiled places, like the beaches and dunes in Sandhammaren, lovely little villages and lighthouse along the coastline, picturesque villages like Ystad, where Henning Mankell's crimes (Wallander) were filmed, forests and castles. A truly highlight are the 58 standing stones in Kåsseberg, which symbolize a ship and this is also a solstice from 4000 BC. There is also a breathtaking cliff scenery were paragliders are flying like seagulls. It’s also worth to take a trip to the beautiful area of Helsingborg.
There are a lot of B&B’s and small hotels to stay at, a real lovely area to spend some days. And the best, it’s only a short drive from Malmö by car.
