The German broadcaster ARD has totally changed its pre selection procedure for the 14th of February. Unlike the last three years it is going to be a real national final again with 12 different participants and 12 songs. Anke Engeleke who co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf is going to host the national final live from Hanover (14th Feb. 2013, 20:15 CET, ARD). There will be a mix of jury voting, televoting and the choice of German radio stations. Last year’s winner Loreen will also appear on stage.
In the German choice you can see that there is a great variety of songs, from pop, rap, retro, Indi and electro up to Gregorian music. The most popular participants are “Die Söhne Manneheims” who are exciting since 17 years and the most popular singer Xavier Naidoo has been part of the group once. Generally spoken it’s a very good standard of music with lots of new energy and fresh songs. The individual video clips are creative and professionally made and are also suitable for an international audience. With a quality standard like this, Germany is setting a high benchmark.
It’s worth to watch the video clips and judge yourself. Some songs are only snippets as there were no full length video clips available:
