The big surprise of the weekend: Malmö will be the host city of the next Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Everybody expected Stockholm to win the Swedish battle, as the new big stadium is almost ready, Gothenburg failed as there was not such a big arena for such a mega event so at the end Malmö made it and convinced with the all the advantages of the Southern Swedish town. The Swedish organizers have well thought about the infrastructure, the accommodation and a smaller city might give more opportunities to care for the international delegations.
Stockholm is also hosting the ice hockey world championship at the same time; there might have been too many events in the city. Malmö has been hosting the 1992 song contest, where Linda Martin from Ireland could win with “Why me”. People may ask “why Malmö?” This lovely city in Southern Sweden is Sweden’s third biggest city with 300.000 inhabitants and is located at the Öresund belt just opposite of the Danish capital Copenhagen.
