During the heads of delegation meeting in Baku the drawn of the running order for the first and second Semi Final and the Big 5 for the Grand Final plus Azerbaijan have been determined. Earlier this year a first drawn was necessary to assure the travel arrangements of the delegations, so it was from urgent importance in which semi final a country is going to be drawn and in which part of it the first or the second. The order of appearance is extremely important for the qualification, as it is to be seen that the last positions might have a better chance for qualification. For the United Kingdom it is number 1 in the final, which means not a good position to win the contest. But there have also been winners on the first spot e.g. “Diggi-Loo, Diggi-Ley” by the Herrey’s in 1984.
The first wildcard in Semi Final 1 got Finland and they chose #9, as well as Ireland which chose #18. In Semi Final 2 there was the Ukraine #7 and Lithuania #18. In the Grand Final it was Spain, which picked #19, as last year’s winner Azerbaijan had the same starting number. Here are the results of the draw: Semi Final 1: 1. Montenegro, 2. Iceland, 3. Greece, 4. Latvia, 5. Albania, 6. Romania, 7. Switzerland, 8. Belgium, 9. Finland, 10. Israel, 11. San Marino, 12. Cyprus, 13. Denmark, 14. Russia, 15. Hungary, 16. Austria, 17. Moldova and 18. Ireland.
