Germany has decided to send Roman Lob to Baku this year! The pre selection looked alike a marathon, in eight show, potential candidates have been reviewed and selected. Unfortunately, the viewing figures decreased dramatically. Due to fact that there are two broadcasters, the established ARD and the private channel Pro7, the acclaims are a bit different. Pro7 stands for the younger crowd who like casting shows, whilst ARD has a long tradition in regards of Eurovision. The show has been broadcasted in rotation; the final last night was shown by ARD. Therefore there were brought some nice ESC memories of the past and an outlook to what can be expected in Azerbaijan, which cannot be said from Pro7, there has not been show a lot of ESC enthusiasm. Regrettably the candidates never tried to sing a song from Eurovision, they are allowed to sing whatever they want.
In the final show last night, the last two candidates Roman Lob and Ornella de Santis have been singing three songs each. The TV viewers were able to vote for their favourite song for each of the candidates in the first step. In the second step Roman and Ornella have been fighting for the ticket to Baku. Roman’s song “Standing still” could win with the utmost small margin of 1% (50.7%), whilst Ornella received 49.3% of the televotes with her song “Quietly”. This was a not expected tight result, as Roman was handled as a favourite from the beginning.
After the result has been announced, the audience in the TV studios gave standing ovations. It was clear from the first presentation that “Standing still” was the viewers favourite. The video clip has been recorded straight away after the show. The song has been composed by famous Jamie Cullum from England. “Standing still” is a mid-tempo ballad, which suits quite well to the 21-years old Roman, who just had an ordinary job engineer until now. His life will be changing dramatically from now on, following the steps of Lena. There will be an album recorded and the stage performance for Baku must be prepared.
