The TV spectators have chosen “Taken by a stranger”, written by the Americans: Nicole Morier, Gus Seyffert and Monica Birkenes. The German process to select the song for Lena has been suffering from heavy criticism in the press. The unusual way of finding one song out of twelve for one special singer is not that uncommon and has been taken place in other countries as well in the past. The big disadvantage for this method is that the excitement is killed, no real competition, Lena against Lena. On the other hand she had a big success not only in Germany. This can be taken as trend setting for others, a good song and performance can mean “open sesame”. Many Eurovision singers have been forgotten a year after their triumph. Lena can now show that life is going on, with success.
There is usually a lot of attention paid when the host country determines the song for the ESC. And especially in the moment of truth at the Eurovision Song Contest itself, where the majority of the audience is local it’s time for judging: judging the hospitality, the organization, the atmosphere and the host entry. So it’s always important to shape up well, nothing is worse than getting last on home ground. This year the organizers wanted to make it perfect, taking Lena again as a singer is almost a guarantee for a good position, and with an additionally extraordinary song, Lena will stand out of the others. The organizers promised a spectacular opening and a beautiful stage, where you” feel your heart beat”.

About me: Due to the fact that my parents are musicians, I have a gained a great enthusiasm for music. Since 1979 my interest in the Eurovision Song Contest has grown enormously. My first ESC I joined was in Dublin 1995. Six years later I founded the website eurovisionlive.com in the year 2001. The most fascinating part for me is the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest – the peaceful contest of the European countries. I am very happy that I have the chance to contribute my little part for the greatest music show in the world.
