After the overwhelming success of Germany in the ESC, there is now the discussion going on where to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Taking this opportunity for a national broadcaster is a kind of prestige project. Of course, the capitals have often been used as a host city, beside of several exceptions like Harrogate 1982, Munich 1983, Gothenburg 1985, Bergen 1986, Lausanne 1989, Malmo 1992, Birmingham 1998 and some more in the past.
For Germany there are at least four cities with a very high interest: Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Hanover. Now it’s in the responsibility of the host broadcaster NDR to make a wise and right decision. Will there be a huge arena available? What’s up with public transport to the venue and does it have a press centre or enough space around? Realistically we might expect an answer in the following weeks, after all these issues have been sorted out.
