It’s no surprise anymore that Rotterdam will host the next Eurovision Song Contest. This is the preliminary announcement of the Dutch broadcasters AVROTROS, NOS and NPO. It all depends on the development of the current Corona pandemic, which hopefully will be over next year. But it is to be expected that the health security level will be stricter and that there is more initiative to protect the singers, fans and journalists.
Likely the ESC will be hosted in the Ahoy arena as it was planned for 2020. At this stage it’s not 100% confirmed. In regards of a smaller event another place could be possible as well, the Ahoy Arena can host up to 16.000 people. The dates of the Grand Final and the Semi Finals are not confirmed neither.
The Netherlands have experiences in special ESC years and have been jumping when necessary. In 1978 and 1979 Israel had two successive victories but only hosted it in 1979. Hence the 1980 ESC has been hosted in The Hague. So the 2021 will happen in Rotterdam, if everything goes well.
More and more countries confirmed their participation for 2021. And luckily a lot of singers from this year have another chance next year:
Efendi for Azerbaijan
Montaigne for Australia
Hooverphonic for Belgium
Victoria for Bulgaria
Benny Cristo for the Czech Republic
Tornike Kipiani for Georgia
Stefania for Greece
Eden Alene for Israel
Samanta Tina for Latvia
Destiny for Malta
Vincent Bueno for Austria
Roxen for Romania
Senhit for San Marino
Jeangu Macrooy for the Netherlands
Blas Canto for Spain

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
