It was just a matter of time when this announcement have come. Now its official, the EBU together with the Dutch broadcasters AVROTROS, NOS and NPO had to cancel this year’s ESC in Rotterdam. It will be the first time on history since the beginning in 1956 that a Eurovision Song Contest has been reversed. This is a total new situation for all of us.
These sad news were expected, as the European Football Championship has been cancelled yesterday, and maybe the Olympic Games in Tokyo will follow as well.
Health first! This is the main thing for everybody on this planet. Due to the quickly spread of the COVID-19 virus which has affected almost every country, there is no answer when everything is getting back to normal. An unpredictable timeline awaits us all, nobody knows when we will have a normal life again. Hence all unnecessary assembling and social contact should be avoided not to worsen the entire situation. A song contest or sport event is the last people need right now.
This was the only logic and right decision to cancel the ESC. It’s still unclear if the Rotterdam will host the 2021 and what will be with the yet allocated songs and performers.
We will keep you updated.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
