In the final night of this year’s Melodifestivalen, the Mamas – last year’s background choir of John Lundvik – have won the ticket for Eurovision. With their song “Move” they could fascinate both the international jury and the Swedish public. After the international jury has given their points, there has been a tie between the Mamas and Dotter. At the end the Mamas could win with one point ahead, they received 72 points from the Swedish public and Dotter only 71 points. This is one of the closest races in the past years.
Despite of the current fear of Corona, the Swedish national final was held in the Friend Arena, close to Stockholm. The sold out final had a great atmosphere as always with thousands of enthusiastic fans.
The standard of the songs was not as high as in previous years. A lot of melodies were negligible and replaceable, beside of the winner “Move” there has not been an outstanding composition. The organizers put a lot of effort in the perfect stage show, but also seems that the composers are always the same, e.g. Jimmi Jansson. He has been four times named as a composer in this year’s final and even more in the semi finals. A better mix of composers should be taken into consideration for the upcoming events.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
