The voting procedure was like a crime. First of all the jury votes put Austria on the top of the list, but with the result of the televoters Israel became the glorious winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. This 20 years after Dana International’s “Diva”.
Cyprus made the best place in history: #2 and Austria was also very close for victory and came third. Germany made a fantastic 4th place, after the debacle of the previous years. And Italy made a great 5th place, mainly given by the televoters.
On the other side of the scoreboard the host country Portugal made a disappointing last place with 39 points. Another disappointing result received the highly favourized Finnish singer Saara Aalto came 25th with 46 points. For Australia it’s the lowest place in history with #20.
There is certainly more to discuss with consideration of the full results of the Semi Finals.
This is the final result of the 26 finalists:
1. Israel 529 points 2. Cyprus 436 points 3. Austria 342 points 4. Germany 340 points 5. Italy 308 points 6. Czech Republic 281 points 7. Sweden 274 points 8. Estonia 245 points 9. About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
