Estonia is going to have its national final “Eesti Laul” tonight. After two semi finals, the Estonians will determine the entry for Portugal. Estonia did have not a good hand in the last two years, when they have not reached the Grand Final anymore. Even if this creative nation with really modern and trendy entries in the national final, the music taste seems to be a bit more conservative. At the end mostly the more traditional pop music will get the golden ticket to the ESC. This is also due to a mixed jury of all ages from the music industry.
In the bets the opera styled song “La Forza” is one of the big favourites. But opera has never really worked in the ESC, neither rock music. Interesting to see is that Gerli Padar is among the finalists again as she represented Estonia back in 2007 with “Partners In Crime”, she only made place 22 in the semi final. She is the sister of Tanel Padar, the winner 2001 together with Dave Benton “Everybody” 1st place in Copenhagen. This year she is singing in a duet with Ellis Pärna “Sky”.
In 2015 Stig Rästa has represented Estonia together with Elina Born and “Goodbye To Yesterday”, who made a respectable 7th place in the Grand Final of Vienna. Now he is going to try it again alone with a ballad, playing the guitar and singing “Home”.
The mix of songs is quite entertaining, there a solid songs and some more crazy songs. Nevertheless, it will be an entertaining evening of current Estonian music, live from the Saku Suurhall in Tallinn, where the 2002 ESC took place. Koit Toome & Laura Põldverewill open the show with the Estonian entry from last year “Lost In Verona”.

My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me.
