The surprise of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest was the extraordinary performance of the Ukrainian musician Onuka. With her appearance in the interval act in the Grand Final she has caught a lot of attention from the million TV spectators. Onuka’s music is a very interesting and cool combination of electro music with ethnic elements.
Onuka means granddaughter and is the name of the electro folk group which was founded in 2013 by the band leader Nata Zhyzchenko and Eugene Filatov. Due to the strong connection to folkloristic elements like the Ukrainian bandura and sopilka as well as other instruments like electronic drums, trombones and French horns, this is a different sound adventure.
Her first concert in Berlin was well received, a great atmosphere with an enthused crowd made it very special. This is definitely worth to experience. Her tour will continue in Latvia, Czech Republic and Ukraine.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
