It has been a long waiting period until the Ukrainian broadcaster NTU on behalf of the EBU has come out with the news of the hosting city 2017. The choice felt to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. This will be the second time in Eurovision history for Kiev hosting the greatest music show in the world after 2005.
The ESC will take place in the IEC – The International Exhibition Centre – the fair trade centre of Kiev. The arena should at least have a capacity for 10.000 guests to be adequate to the EBU standards. The IEC is located on the other side of the Dnrepr river, where the city center is located and the former ESC location Palatsu Sport.
There have been many discussions in forehand like in previous years in Sweden, Austria and Denmark and the day of the announcement has been postponed several times. There were other bidding cities like Odessa and Dnipro. At the end Kiev has the best infrastructure in concerns of location, hotel rooms, airport, nightlife, etc. In 2005 Kiev as a host city has proofed to be a great host city and foreigners were treated as friends. So it’s to be expected that this happens again next year.
It has also been discussed if the ESC 2017 can take place in a country which is actually in war in the Crimea area. The organizers have promised the utmost security for the visitors.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
