The Icelandic singer Eiríkur Hauksson in the Finnish design centre of Arabia and Iittali is trying to lengthen his beard with soft pottery.
Finnish design is very popular around the world. The clear shapes and forms are typical for Finnish design. These tea candle holders are beautiful and stylish.
The Belgian singer Sexyfire is obviously impressed by the nice ceramics in the design centre.
It’s true: there is real drink of last year’s winners Lordi! Lordi cola! This drink will frighten you!
The monument of the composer Jean Sibelius (1867 – 1957) is one of the most photographed sights in Helsinki. It has been build in 1962 and should symbolize music. Many people see an organ or a crystal in it.
The Helsinki cathedral
This is one of the tallest orthodox cathedrals in Western Europe. It’s also one of the most significant landmarks of the town.
Eiríkur from Iceland enjoys the boat trip in Helsinki. A great trip for the participants to the archipelago of the Finnish coastline.
International understanding at the Eurovision Song Contest: Belgium and Iceland.
A fantastic landscape along the Finnish coastline. You can find granite throughout the city. These are remains of the glacial period.
Serka from the Ukraine is rocking the place! She is looking like a teletubbie!
The beautiful Russian singer Serebro. Serebro means silver in English. Let’s hope that they can make silver into gold!
Jaana Pelkonen is one of the charming hosts this year. She is a very popular TV star home in Finland.
DQ from Denmark! She is not the only drag queen in this Eurovision Song Contest. Her strongest rival is the Ukrainian Serka with her turbo-polka song!
What a lovely pair: Jaana Pelkonen and Mikko Leppilampi. The both with host the 52nd Eurovision Song contest. She used to be a model and he is an actor and musician.
The Jet Set from Poland. They appear as cool as in their video clip. Many people don’t see them in the final.
This is Edsilia. She is always in a good mood. Well, she has Eurovision experiences already, as she represented the Netherlands in 1998 in Birmingham and came 4th. This year there is big hurdle: the semi-final!
She is fighting all night long: Natalia from Moldova! With a strong performance and a good song she might have a chance to qualify.
eurovisionlive.com meets Teemu Muurimäki. He is the designer for Jaana’s dress for Saturday night!
These are the Finnish faces you should remember: Hanna, Jaana and Mikko! Very sympathetic indeed!
Serbia’s background dancers…all outfitted with white hats and black suits. Cool!
The Portuguese group around Sabrina. Why doesn’t she have a better song?
D’Nash from Spain! The media interest in this group is extremely high. They are also good singers. On our media site they are singing “Eres tu” – the Spanish entry from 1973 getting 2nd.
A little bit overdone – the Austrian singer Eric Papilaya. But on the other hand all the competitors try to be different…
The Slovenian Valkyrie: Alenka Gotar with her singers. She is representing pop-opera. Is Europe ready for opera???
The French group Les Fatals Picards in their jumpers. They were highly motivated and partied all night long in the Euroclub.
“Sieben, Sieben eilulu” – that’s a part of the lyrics of the Ukrainian entry. Not very pretentious, but nead. She is probably the most striking person in this year’s contest.
That’s Eurovision! European meet each other: the Dutch and the Latvians.
The most attractive singer of the contest is Sarbel from Greece. He’s singing a typical Mediterranean dance song. Nothing new. On stage he is also using elements from former entries.
Highly motivated are the Dutch background dancers. The enjoyed the Welcome Reception in the Finlandia Hall.
Marion Rung is probably the most popular Finnish singer. She has already represented Finland in 1962 in Luxembourg with “Tipi-tii”and came 7th, and in 1973 again in Luxembourg with “Tom Tom Tom” she came 6th. She told us about her experience in the Eurovision Song Contest and why she would like to have the orchestra back. Find out more in our Media Centre / Specials.
The singer Maria from Bosnia & Herzegovina. She is going to start on the first position in the final on Saturday night with a superb opening song.
The commentators meeting: Peter Urban from Germany and Andy Knoll from Austria.
She will be the TV moderator for the Finnish television YLE: Ellen Jokikunnas.
Karolina from Macedonia savours the international attention. It’s her second appearance on a Eurovision stage. In 2002 in Tallinn she only came 19th with “Od nas zavisi”.
The singing Romanians: Todomondo! They gave us a special performance of their catchy and funny song “Liubi, liubi, I love you”. Watch our Media Centre.
The Finlandia Hall! The place to be in Helsinki on this special occasion. The Welcome Reception took place. The Finlandia hall was designed by Alvar Aalto and it was build in 1971. The architecture is typical Finnish, functional design – a great contrast to the atrabilious landscape. Alvar Aalto used Carrara marble for this exceptional building.
A place to be in Helsinki: the Euroclub brings people together from all over Europe.
