FYR Macedonia

Participant(s): Elena Risteska
Song: Ninanajna
Writer(s): Rade Vrcakovski
Composer(s): Darko Dimitrov

Information about the singer

Due to the fact that Macedonia borders to the Greek province Macedonia the country had to accept the name FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) to avoid mistakes. Macedonia had it's debut in 1998 and since that the country always tried to bring the best singers on the Eurovision stage. There were always rumours about the friendly voting of the "Balkan-Connection". But these rumours can't be verified, because Macedonia has not always received high votes and also ended up in the lower ranks quite often. Especially female singers are having a harder task to shape up well.

This year's singer Elena Risteksa is going to shine for her country. With her modern arranged song "Ninanajna" you may find some similarities to songs of Shakira or Britney Spears. This song is also including traditional elements, on which the Macedonians are very proud of.
